Apple Triumphs in AliveCor Antitrust Suit

KEY POINTS:
Apple wins key antitrust lawsuit
AliveCor plans to appeal court decision
Apple Inc. has emerged victorious in an antitrust lawsuit filed by AliveCor, a company that develops a heart rate monitoring app and wristband for the Apple Watch. The lawsuit alleged that Apple was monopolizing the US market for heart rate monitoring apps. The judgment was delivered by Federal Judge Jeffrey White of the Northern District of California on January 31, 2024.

AliveCor has expressed its disappointment with the court's decision and has announced its intention to appeal. The company insists that the findings of the International Trade Commission, which indicate that Apple infringed AliveCor's patents, remain valid. AliveCor has also stated that the appeals from both the ITC and US Patent Trial and Appeal Board will be reviewed at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in the near future.

An Apple representative has commented on the lawsuit, stating that it challenged the company's ability to enhance the capabilities of the Apple Watch. According to the spokesperson, the court's decision demonstrates that Apple's actions were not anticompetitive.
